Welcome to OVO,
changING the world of energy forever.

Founded in 2009 by Stephen Fitzpatrick, our goal was to do things differently.

We wanted to make energy greener, cheaper, and simpler for customers, to introduce more renewables into the mix and to ensure we had a positive impact on their lives.  So we built a responsible, responsive energy company where we always put our customers first

today we need to do more.

OVO Energy

We launched in 2009 to make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. We bring great service, clear information, and transparency to a broken industry.

Today we’re blending renewable energy with smart technology to bring you great service and your kids (and their kids) the future they deserve. Today we serve more than 670,000 PAYM energy customers, and over 800,000 retail customers with our PAYG brand BOOST.

BOOST

We are a dedicated prepayment energy brand founded on the belief that customers want the freedom to top up their energy when and where they’d like. Introduced by OVO in 2017, we are an evolution of OVO Energy’s Smart PAYG+, the first truly smart prepayment platform in the UK. We offer the same game-changing technology and unparalleled levels of customer service expected from an OVO brand, with a fresh new look for customers. Today we serve more than 209,000 PAYG customers.

LUMO

Lumo is an app-only energy supplier in beta owned by OVO Group, offering a transparent view on the market by actively promoting the best tariffs for customers through our website. Lumo is designed for price-sensitive energy consumers, looking for a simple, digital-only energy solution.

An intelligent energy system of the future

VCharge

One of the first systems of its kind, VCharge is a highly scalable, intelligent technology platform that captures the value of flexibility present in all energy resources. VCharge remotely connects distributed flexible electrical devices (electric vehicles, home batteries, storage heaters) enabling the UK grid to symbiotically react to changes in demand and supply. For the first time in history, there’s convergence between the needs of your family, the grid and the planet.

Smart Electric Heat

The OVO Heat Dynamo is part of OVO’s strategy to make heating greener through electrification while providing more value for customers. It is an internet connected smart switch that can be retrofitted to an electric storage heater to give it smart controls. We want smart electric heat to become the default heating technology for all homes in the UK.

OVO is also working with manufacturers to launch the first electric storage heaters with built-in VCharge integration later in 2018. These will be the world’s first smart-grid enabled electric storage heaters, which will support balancing of the electricity grid by providing extra capacity for flexible energy distribution.

Home Energy Storage

We believe demand for home batteries is set to increase significantly over the next five years as hardware costs fall, battery technology improves, energy flexibility value increases, and there is greater uptake and interest amongst customers in smart energy management. Our sophisticated battery that utilises the VCharge platform, will mean customers are able sell power back to the grid at peak time, earning revenues from energy arbitrage and new flexibility services.

Electric Vehicles

We are at the forefront of the EV revolution, facilitating mass adoption via the creation of compelling value propositions for EV drivers.

The OVO Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Charger is the world’s first widely available, single-phase smart vehicle charger to enable a two-directional connection with the electricity network. With a 6kW charge and discharge power rating, this intelligent device has been designed to give drivers the opportunity to discharge excess electricity from their cars back to the electricity grid, providing flexibility services and helping to supply energy at times of peak demand.

The OVO Smart Charger uses VCharge AI advanced scheduling to optimise grid balancing and battery longevity and responds to signals on pricing and demand from the grid. It can automatically charge cars during off-peak periods when demand for electricity is lower and energy is cheaper and possibly greener. It can also pause charging during peak periods to manage strain on the grid, saving money and avoiding the risk of local blackouts caused by surges in demand.

SMART METERS

Smart meters are the gateway to a range of products and services that will transform energy systems for the long term. They are the foundation for new smart technology to develop and thrive in homes, and create energy efficient systems. Furthermore smart meters feeding data into smart grids, will allow energy providers to better manage bi-directional power flows into and out of their grids, and give customers insights to understand their own energy infrastructure investments.

In-Home Technology

In-Home Technology (IHT) installs smart meters in the homes of OVO customers, providing over 750,000 individual smart meter installations since 2013. As a result of OVO’s continued focus on driving forward the smart rollout, 45% of customers now benefit from having a smart meter, including over two in three Prepayment customers, who are able to uses the PAYG+ smartphone app to better manage their energy needs.

ChargedEV

ChargedEV are the leading independent experts in Electric Vehicle charging equipment. ChargedEV consult, supply, install and maintain EV charge points in domestic, commercial and public space settings. Partnering with ChargeMaster and offering the largest range of EV Charging Solutions in Europe, ChargedEV ensure customers receive a tailored solution. From the WallPod to the SecuriCharge and the Basic Charge up to the AutoCharge ChargedEV can supply a solution that fits the bill.

Indra

Indra is a UK based electric vehicle technology company founded in 2013. Indra focuses on vehicle technology and the synergies between the EV and energy industries. Indra is a technology integration partner for many niche manufacturers with a particular specialism in lithium battery pack design and build. Other services include supply of parts, conversions and component/systems integration.
